<div class="section1"><div class="Normal">BANGALORE: An Indian wife of a Pakistani national faces deportation in Pakistan. Across the border, in southern India, a Pakistani woman married to a local trader, and mother of two, faces a similar uncertainty.<br /><br />Seema Hussain (37), a Pakistani, is married to Bangalore <span style="" font-style:="" italic="">agarbatti</span> trader Khaja Naushad Hussain for over 14 years.
The couple after getting married in 1990, shunted between two countries a couple of times.<br /><br />Though her passport is valid till December 2004, her residential permit issued by authorities in Bangalore expired on December 2, 2001. Since then, it has been a struggle for the family. <br /><br />In 2002, she was taken into custody along with her nine-month-old daughter for about 10 days. Several representations have been sent to various authorities including the President, Union home minister, Karnataka chief minister and governor, to get her permit extended.<br /></div> </div><div class="section2"><div class="Normal"><br />Hussain has also moved the Karnataka High Court seeking a direction to the government to extend visa for Seema to continue to stay in India. The case came up for hearing on Wednesday and has been posted for further hearing on August 10.<br /><br />In her letter to the under secretary, home and transport, Seema stated that she returned to Pakistan through the Attari checkpost by rail on August 7, 2000. She gave birth to her second daughter Fabiha Naushad on May 24, 2001. She returned to Bangalore in August the same year and was allowed to stay till December.<br /><br />After overstaying here, she was taken into custody along with her second daughter, who was then nine months old She was, however, released and a case is pending before the sessions court for about two years. Hussain then moved the HC seeking an extension, the letter stated.<br /></div> </div><div class="section3"><div class="Normal"><br />In her plea, Seema has stated that they have been unable to attend court due to financial constraints. They have sought Indian nationality for Seema. While the legal battle continues, the couple''s 12-year-old daughter Firdous Kawal remains in Pakistan.<br /><br />In Hoti near Islamabad, Hafsa (25) from Kerala married to a Pakistani, Aman faces deportation. Pakistan refused her citizenship and told her to leave. But Aman secured a stay.</div> </div>
